Digital Department

The Digital Department at Hagadone Printing Company is a print shop within a print shop. It accommodates short runs up to 2,500 press sheets, quick turn around times as well as variable data projects without compromising offset print quality. The department is equipped with a HP Indigo 5500 Digital Offset Press, HP UV coater and DUPLO binding & finishing equipment to be completely independent. All of the machines are computer controlled, modern, top-of-the-line equipment specially designed for digital print applications. Besides many other applications, the department is particularly suited for printing-on-demand, sample runs or mock ups of publications/magazines without conventional high costs.

You are welcome to visit our Digital Department to take a closer look at our equipment and to get a more in depth view about all our capabilities.

HP Indigo 5500 Digital Offset Press
The HP Indigo 5500 has the highest quality output of any digital press on the market today. The press uses Hewlett Packard’s (HP) patented liquid ink technology instead of common dry plastic toner, resulting in  much higher print quality and an actual dot structure just like traditional offset presses. Printing in a true offset printing process using a plate and a blanket to print on the actual substrate, the Indigo 5500 offers the best four-color process reproduction, color accuracy & consistency currently available in the market. The Indigo 5500 has the ability to use a 6/C proprietary process called IndiChrome, employing additional orange and violet inks to reproduce a wider color gamut. Its integrity is especially apparent in skin tones and flat screen builds. The 6 color configuration furthermore enables the press to print a satin transparent ink for special effects or any PMS color. The transparent ink & PMS colors are available as special order and can be printed instead of IndiChrome’s orange and violet inks.

The biggest advantage of a digital press in today’s markets compared with traditional offset presses is the ability to print variable data. Data can be type, or images, or both, allowing the creation of highly customized or personalized printed material. The Indigo 5500 can print, for example, 1,000 flyers that look alike or 1,000 individual flyers with the same effort. This special feature is possible because of the digital printing process and by combining a template layout with a data file that contains individual exchangeable data. Please contact us for more questions or how to set up your files for this feature.

The HP Indigo 5500 is one of the environmentally-friendliest digital presses in the market, recycling, separating and re-using liquids of the printing process thereby reducing the actual waste to a minimum.

HP UV Coater
UV Coating enhances the aesthetics of printed pieces. It protects printed pieces which might be exposed to scuffing and rubbing, such as when being run through mailing equipment or exposed to the environment. It is instantly dry and creates photo-realistic pieces that are even resistant to detergents. UV coating is a great and economical alternative to laminating for larger quantities.

  • Media Range: sheets 80# coated text up to 24pt coated cover
  • UV Coating: Gloss: 1 side or 2 sides (2 sides 100# cover or heavier only!)
  • Speed: up 4,000 sheets per hour (pending substrate)
  • Maximum Sheet Size: 14 x 20
  • Can coat both digitally or conventional printed sheets
  • NOTE: uncoated paper can’t be UV coated because the varnish will not remain on the surface. It will penetrate the paper and can’t be cured. Therefore UV coating can only be applied on coated papers (gloss or matte).
